Nights in the Gardens of Spain
Rosemary ist zum ersten mal glücklich, als sie sich mit einer Nachbarin anfreundet, die ihren sadistischen Ehemann ermordet hat. Bald entdeckt Rosemary allerdings die dunklen Seiten ihres eigenen Mannes.

Alan Bennett schrieb 1987 und 1998 unter dem Titel Talking Heads jeweils sechs preisgekrönte Monologe für das BBC-Fernsehen. English Theatre Berlin wählte drei Monologe aus der neueren Serie. Es geht um drei Menschen, in deren Dasein sich ein Abgrund auftat, und die irgendwann die Chance verpasst haben, sich in ein besseres Leben hinüber zu retten. Wie in seinen berühmten Kurzromanen Cosi fan tutte (2001) und Die souveräne Leserin (2007) zeigt Bennett auch in Talking Heads seine exzellente Beoabachtungsgabe gepaart mit Ironie und Herzenswärme.

... it was kind of trashy and lurid and magnificent. It was fucking brilliant. There aren't enough swear words in the English language to describe how brilliant it was. It was fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking brilliant. ... Jesse Inman played (fucking brilliantly) a paedo who was like "struggling." I mean, he wasn't struggling that much, he could've chopped his dick off, but he really was struggling.

But by the end of Talking Heads, the audience was clearly ready to mine Rosemary’s story, recounted with thrilling poignancy by Solem, for optimism. On this muggy Berlin evening, they laughed uproariously at her acerbic jokes and listened attentively to her confessions of the mutual love between her and Fran.
