The origins of IMPROV

Commedia dell’Arte is one of the oldest theatre genres. We have invited an expert in this field: Fabio Mangolini. He will be training the Festival ensemble and on two evenings actors will relish the opulence of this primal improv form - in all theatrical languages.

Fabio Mangolini has studied at the Ecole Internationale de Mimodrame de Paris Marcel Marceau. He worked with Carlo Boso's company until 1990 in the roles of Arlequin, Zanni, Pulcinella and Sganarello and has been acting on many stages throughout Europe, Japan, U.S.A. and some others countries. In addition to his work as an actor, he has since 1988 been intensively involved in teaching and directing in Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, El Salvador, Norway, Japan, U.S.A. In 1992 he received a scholarship from the Japan Foundation within their Artist Fellowship Program and studied and worked in Tokyo with Kyogen's Master Nomura Kosuke. In 1993 he received a scholarship from the Japanese Agency for Culture and the International Theatre Institute of Tokyo to carry on with his work.
From 2004 Fabio Mangolini is “specialist teacher” at the Royal National Drama School of Madrid RESAD in Spain. In 2009 he was appointed president of the Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Ferrara in Italy.

Die Ursprünge des IMPRO Theaters

Die Commedia dell’Arte ist eine der ältesten Formen dieses Theatergenres. Ein Meister dieses Fachs Fabio Mangolini wird das Festivalensemble trainieren, und an zwei Abenden werden die Spielerinnen und Spieler die Opulenz dieser Ur-Impro-Form voll auskosten.

Fabio Mangolini, già allievo di Marcel Marceau, con una vasta esperienza in Europa, America e Giappone come attore, regista e insegnante, ha praticato e pratica tuttora la Commedia dell’Arte. Specializzato nei ruoli di servitore (Arlecchino, Pulcinella, Zanni, Sganarello…), ha insegnato Commedia dell’Arte all’Ecole Internationale de Mimodrame Marcel Marceau di Parigi e in diversi stages internazionali (Italia, Spagna, Francia, Giappone, Stati Uniti, …). Ultimamente ha insegnato alla Real Escuela de Arte Drammatico de Madrid, alla Richmond University, al Conservatoire de Art Dramatique di Bruxelles e all’Academie de l’Union di Limoges. Attualmente è professore “specialista” presso la Real Escuela de Arte Dramatico de Madrid. La sua conferenza/spettacolo sulla Commedia dell’Arte “Il lazzo della mosca e altre storie” è stata presentata in Giappone, Stati Uniti, Francia, Spagna, Irlanda, Norvegia, Italia, Belgio, Germania, Cile, El Salvador sempre con identico successo.
Fabio Mangolini ha recentemente collaborato, come esperto di Commedia dell’Arte, alla regia de “Il Servitore di due padroni” di Carlo Goldoni presso il Milwaukee Repertory Theater negli U.S.A. Dal 2009 è il nuovo Presidente della Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Ferrara.
