Kalbata (Soul Jazz Records, Spring Hill Records, Tel Aviv)
http://soundcloud.com/kalbata
Kalbata, real name Ariel Tagar, is a bass music pioneer from Tel Aviv. Regardless of genre, his distinct musical approach comes through in everything he does -- a deep affection for the lowest of frequencies and a collection of vintage effects and instruments which guarantee his razor sharp beats will always have a warm analog feel, floating in a pool of endless ripples and echoes.
Singed to the legendary Soul Jazz Records, Kalbata collaborated with MC's Warrior Queen, Clapper Priest and 80's Rub-A-Dub legends, Jah Thomas and Little John for his various 12"s on the label. For his most recent one, he travelled to Jamaica to record a totally analog dub record with live instruments on a 16 track tape machine in the spirit of King Tubby.
In 2009 Kalbata was the man behind the Dubstep anthem 'Ninja We Ninja' featured on the UK Feature film 'Shank'. Other 12"s to his name came out on labels such as Double Science, Botanika, Scotch Bonnet and Yellow Machines as well as a string of big remixes for artists such as Spank Rock, Roll Deep, The Count & Sinden, Fat Freddy's Drop, Sunship & Jahcoozi.
Kalbata is label owner of Reggae Re-Issue label Spring Hill, committed to unearthing and rereleasing tough and obscure reggae tracks from the 70's and 80's.
Seams (Pictures Music, Tough Love Records)

Rising alongside the raft of electronic producers making waves is Seams. Touring with Gold Panda and Dam Mantle whilst selling out a run of 'Nightcycles' pressed by Tough Love set Seams off to a very strong start. Most electronic music fans will recognise in Seams' organic sound a reference to traditional song writing and structure. Seams is likely to be a gateway drug to electronica for those kids that grew up listening to guitar music.
Next up saw Seams capture the essence of the Berlin summertime for Pictures Music. 'Tourist' documents a summer spent living in Berlin with a laptop and a Dictaphone. The four tracks guide you sonically through the city's different atmospheres with recordings chopped and looped over subtle synth and drum work. The EP garnered the praise of his contemporaries and peers for a decidedly delicate take on electronic soundscapes.
The 'Focus Energy/Motive Order' 12" takes Seams' lush electronica in a new direction. He returns with an altogether more dance-floor orientated release. Driven by a desire to make audiences at his live shows dance, a much more propulsive sound manifests itself across the two tracks. This is no nose dive into minimal throb however; there is still the inherent musicality and ear for melody that has seen him get commissioned for remixes of Gold Panda, Chad Valley and Memory Tapes amongst others.
Bill Youngman (Serotonin, Killekill, Tresor, DC Recordings, etc.)
http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/billyoungman/biography
"Electrostep," Bill Youngman's 1996 release on Serotonin Records stands as a testament to one man's love of electro beats. Cutting, splicing and rearranging beats, he crafted an idealized rendition of electronica, much as Drum and Bass producers did with funk breaks. "Electrostep II" followed a year later, further developing the idea. Always responding to the times, Youngman found his passion for drum computers and analog machines after years of classical training in guitar and drums. He moved to Berlin in 2001, in search of the perfect beat. There, he became involved with the experimental techno scene, looking for new ways to push the boundaries of music. Along the way he has collaborated with Jamie Lidell, Neil Landstrumm, Cristian Vogel, and Tobias Schmidt.
Today, Youngman presents his high-energy act worldwide, performing in front of audiences ready for an artist who will truly engage them. Dropping beats like bombs and weaving tsunamis of synth lines, he tops off his abstract and off-kilter techno sounds with authentic NYC hip hop elements: beat-boxing, freestyling and hyping up the crowd on the mic. Unlike your average DJ, this man doesn't look like he could be checking emails up in the booth.
Youngman has additional releases on DC Recordings, Null, Tresor, Serotonin and Scandinavia.
